After the successful launch of its iPhone 15 series and Apple Watch series, Apple is now working on a foldable iPad. This device is rumored to be in mass production and according to MacRumors it might be unveiled in late 2023.
For the past few months, rumors have been circulating online about Apple’s development of a foldable iPad. It’s also been hinted that Apple has filed for patents on increasingly advanced designs. These rumors suggest that the chances to launch a foldable iPad are greater than that of a foldable iPhone.
According to MacRumors, Apple is actively working with suppliers on the development of the foldable iPad. Small scale production is reportedly underway which indicates that Apple might announce this innovative product either at the end of 2024 or in 2025.
According to Apple Police, Apple has been diligently working on foldable products for the past 4 years. The designs have undergone multiple changes suggesting that Apple might release a foldable iPad first, followed by a foldable iPhone.
The Apple CEO also visited China due to the decrease in sales of the iPhone 15 compared to the iPhone 14 from the previous year. This visit might have been a discreet opportunity to meet with suppliers working on the foldable iPad.
A significant challenge Apple faces is the device’s panel and display hinges. Samsung’s foldable display also isn’t perfect, given that these are liquid displays. They often face long-term issues, like a permanent line at the spot where the display folds and unfolds
According to MacRumors, mass production of Apple’s first foldable iPad is set to commence in 2025. DigiTimes believes that this foldable design could increase iPad shipments potentially reversing the trend of declining global tablet sales.
